Amex Dining Map

Case study snapshot

The short version before the full project story.

Context

The Amex Dining Map is a tool I built to make it easier to discover and book restaurants in the American Express Platinum Dining Collection.

Key decision

Amex Platinum cardholders get access to a curated network of partner restaurants, but discovering them is buried in the Amex app. There's no map view, no way to browse by location, and the experience doesn't match how people actually decide where to eat.

Role

I worked as Designer & Developer on Amex Dining Map, shaping product decisions across Multi-platform.

Overview

The Amex Dining Map is a tool I built to make it easier to discover and book restaurants in the American Express Platinum Dining Collection.

Problem

Amex Platinum cardholders get access to a curated network of partner restaurants, but discovering them is buried in the Amex app. There's no map view, no way to browse by location, and the experience doesn't match how people actually decide where to eat.

Solution

An interactive map that plots all Dining Collection restaurants, letting users browse by location, cuisine type, and availability. The interface is designed for quick discovery — see what's nearby, check the details, and book directly.

Key Design Decisions

  • Map-first interface — Location is the primary way people choose restaurants, so the map is the hero
  • Minimal chrome — Cards overlay the map with just enough info to decide: name, cuisine, rating, and a booking link
  • Mobile-optimized — Most restaurant decisions happen on the go, so mobile is the primary design target
