Context

Phantom had established itself as the leading Solana wallet on desktop. The challenge was bringing that same experience to mobile — with full feature parity — while making crypto accessible to a new wave of users.

Key decision

Desktop-first crypto wallets don't translate well to mobile. Screen real estate is limited, transaction flows need to feel instant, and users expect native-level polish. We needed to ship a product that matched our desktop quality while feeling like it was designed for mobile from day one.

Phantom had established itself as the leading Solana wallet on desktop. The challenge was bringing that same experience to mobile — with full feature parity — while making crypto accessible to a new wave of users.

Challenge

Desktop-first crypto wallets don't translate well to mobile. Screen real estate is limited, transaction flows need to feel instant, and users expect native-level polish. We needed to ship a product that matched our desktop quality while feeling like it was designed for mobile from day one.

Process

I worked closely with engineering and product to audit every desktop feature and determine how it should adapt to mobile. Key areas of focus included:

  • Navigation architecture — Rethinking the information hierarchy for thumb-friendly interaction
  • Transaction flows — Streamlining multi-step signing and approval flows for small screens
  • Onboarding — Designing a frictionless setup experience for users new to crypto

Solution

We launched the Phantom iPhone app with full desktop feature parity, followed by Android. The app introduced a simplified navigation model, swipe-based interactions for common actions, and a redesigned onboarding flow that reduced setup time significantly.

Impact

The mobile launch coincided with Phantom's $109M Series B at a $1.2B valuation. The app quickly became one of the top-rated crypto wallets on both app stores, significantly expanding Phantom's user base beyond desktop-native crypto users.
